Google update, are you responsive ready?

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.“

This will mean that websites that aren’t designed to be viewed across multiple devices such as laptops, mobile phones and tablets will appear lower in search rankings when searched for from a mobile device. The changes being made by Google to help people using their search engine on mobile devices to find websites that have been optimised to view on those devices.

Responsive

To find out whether your website has been optimised to view on mobile devices Google have made a mobile friendly test. A few of the elements Google will look at are whether the text on your website scales to be easily read on different screen sizes, if your content fits on the screen, if your touchable links are spaced apart and can be easily used, how fast page load times for mobile devices and whether your site depends on Flash elements as it doesn’t tend to work well for mobile.

If you haven’t already got a responsive mobile friendly website, now is the time. With increasing mobile devices searching the web responsive design is a great long-term investment for your business. Without updating your website you could loose out to your competition.
